PLENTY HAPPENING AT KILKENNY

Ian Fortune

The opening round of the John Mitchell Bookmaker & KGOBA Sweepstakes commence at Kilkenny on Friday.

These include an ON2 525, A2 525 and A3 525, all of which come to a conclusion on Sunday, July 10th as part of the Summer Festival of Racing Night.

Friday’s card is also a fundraiser for Threecastles GAA. Tom Lennon has kindly donated a six-month-old bitch pup for auction on the night. The bitch who will be reared on free of charge until 12 months old is a well bred daughter of King Sheeran and Fiftyshadesnifty.

Fiftyshadesnifty is a daughter of Lemon Bolt, who from her first litter threw Much Debate, a 28.60 and 17.44 winner around Thurles, and Hilight Arkle, who after scoring in 28.37 around Curraheen Park was sold to the UK where he developed into one of the very best in training.

ENTRIES REQUIRED

Entries are invited for a 12 dog A1 525 and a D1 725 Sweepstake.

Both events will kick off on Friday, July 1st and boast a winner’s purse of €1,000.

Entries now also invited for the Boylesports A3/A4 Bitch 525 Sweepstake which is worth an incredible €5,000 to the winner. It gets underway on Friday, July 22nd and is for 48 bitches.

Kilkenny’s nest sales meeting is scheduled for Saturday, July 2nd. More details in the coming week.

MOFO TO BE PARADED

After her heroics in the Sporting Pres Online Edition Irish Oaks last weekend, the brilliant Raha Mofo will be paraded on Friday.

Raha Mofo was, of course, bred by Stevie Dunne in Freshford and trained locally at the Village Kennels by Murt and Deirdre Leahy.

BEST OF LUCK TO KILKENNY REGULARS IN TOWCESTER

On the subject of Kilkenny trainers winning classics, all at Kilkenny track would like to wish the very best to Paul Hennessy as he aims to win another English Derby.

All eyes, in particular, will be on Hello Hammond, who is owned by Carlow natives and Kilkenny regulars Gerry & Miriam Meaney. Good luck to all!
