40 IRISH AS ENGLISH DERBY ENTRIES REVEALED

40 Irish trained greyhounds will be in the hat for Friday’s opening round draw of the Star Sports & Orchestrate English Greyhound Derby.
Graham Holland tops the list with 11 runners, closely followed by Liam Dowling with 9 entries. Pat Buckley (7) and Paul Hennessy (6) are next, while Brendan Matthews is responsible for 4 entries, two more than Mark Robinson with 2 entries. John Kennedy has a single entry.
11 FOR GRAHAM
Graham Holland’s team is headed by his Irish Derby winners Cheap Sandwiches and Bockos Diamond.
Of course, the duo made last year’s English Derby decider and are more than familiar with Towcester. They are very much the big two for Holland, although Swords Style is also a notable entry after his recent Juvenile success at the Derby venue.
SETANTA AMONGST LIAM’S 9
Liam Dowling is sending over some big hitters but none more so than his Kirby memorial runner-up Ballymac Setanta.
He has been favourite for Derby honours on both sides of the Irish Sea or a few months and it will be interesting to see how he handles the Northamptonshire circuit.
He is far from Liam’s only potential winner. His entire team of ‘Ballymac’ runners have shown real ability and any of his nine runners could go far, although outside Setanta, Stud, Duffle and Deniro are probably his best hopes.
BUCKS WITH A STRONG TEAM
Pat Buckley’s team is headed by the likes of Irish Derby finalist Glengar Silent.
The very talented Hackney Corner, although Cesarewitch winner Ballinabola Joe and Juvenile Derby runner-up Unanimous Leo are also capable of running well.
PAUL WITH A HALF DOZEN
Paul Hennessy has a strong team.
With his Easter Cup runner-up Lennies Tank, Gold Cup winner Coloursaregreen and exciting youngsters Lennies Dynamic and Lennies Eddie. His team is completed by Towcester 500m track record holder Lennis Desire and Priceless Romeo.
MATTHEWS FOUR-HANDED
Brendan Matthews sends over a young team.
Which includes Ello Ello, who was so impressive in the early rounds of the Kirby Memorial.
BOY REPRESENTING ROBINSON
Mark Robinson will be hoping Getup The Boy can produce his best form around Towcester.
If doing so, the Juvenile Derby champion could go deep.
ACE FOR KENNEDY
John Kennedy is bringing over Epic Ace.
Undoubtedly, one of the fastest dogs in training, he could make waves if finding his trapping boots. A full list of the 166 names can be found below with the Irish highlighted.
