CHARLIES ODDS-ON FOR CORN SUCCESS

Ian Fortune

It won’t come as much surprise to those paying attention to the staying scene at present to see Tuono Charlie odds-on for Corn Cuchulainn success after his latest in a long line of stunning victories over six bends.

In posting 41.01 in the opening round of the staying classic, he became the second fastest greyhound to ever cover the 750yd trip at Shelbourne Park and odds of 8-11 with Boylesports about the Sharon Hunt trained star going on to land the valuable prize seem fair.

In victory he also brought his tally to nine wins from nine starts over six bends, highlighting his standing as the best in the business at present. To further highlight his dominance, Droopys Comrade at 5-1 is the only other greyhound at single figure odds.

Hanover Phantom, who ran up the Corn Cuchulainn last year is 12-1 alongside Mcneill, while impressive opening round winner Velvet Jenny is 14-1 with fellow opening round scorer Miss Mini Holly.

Neon Lights and Leeloo are next at 16-1 and it’s 20-1 bar. The classic continues on Saturday night with two semi-finals.
