The evening starts from approx. 6.30pm when the doors open, with racing normally beginning between 7.30 and 8pm.

Greyhound Racing is fast paced and exciting, races run every 15 minutes and a typical race takes just 30 seconds! With just 6 Greyhounds in a race, choosing a winner is easier than you’d imagine and if you fancy a flutter (just €1 will do!) then the Tote betting staff are always nearby.

And the fact that the races take place every twelve minutes or so means that children, in particular, have plenty to keep them interested. Children under 18 are welcomed during racing under the supervision of an adult

1. THE ATMOSPHERE

When you go greyhound racing, it’s all about the buzz - the atmosphere is totally different from a typical restaurant, bar or club night out. It’s not as quiet and formal as a restaurant but not as loud and rowdy as a bar or club.

There is a race approximately every 12/15 minutes on the track and all the details of the race times, dogs names & trap numbers can be found in race programme.

The excitement of greyhound racing, whether you’re betting or just spectating, build the anticipation and atmosphere and adds to the fun.

Curraheen Park has its own restaurant, where you can feast on the some quality dining options. In fact, when we get feedback from customers, their first comments are always about how great the food is.  

You can chose from our restaurant packages include reserved seats in our restaurant with perfect views of the racing and bar and Tote betting service to your table, or something more casual from our fast food outlet on the ground floor.

History of Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium

Greyhound racing has been a feature of life in Cork since 1928. That was when Cork Showgrounds was built to accommodate the sport, but it lasted just seven years before the decision was taken to move closer to the centre of the city. The new track was called Cork Greyhound Stadium and was built near the Wellington Bridge on a site between the Northern bank of the River Lee and Western Road.

The Cork stadium enjoyed some great moments, including the hosting of the Irish Greyhound Derby in 1942. The Laurels was inaugurated in 1944, going on to become a classic in the Irish greyhound-racing world.

Public Bar - All of our bars sell both alcoholic & non-alcoholic beers along with variety of wines and minerals.  In Ireland you have to be over 18 to purchase or consume alcohol.
