The news came through this morning that English Derby champion Lennies Eddie will be an absentee from the third round of the BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby after picking up a back injury on Friday night.
Thankfully, it’s nothing serious but it will be enough to keep him on the sidelines for a few weeks. No decision has been made on his next assignment, but Kevin Hennessy did hint that they won’t rush him back with a view to having his fresh and ready for a big 2027.
Of course, it’s easy to forget that he is only two since April. One would imagine a defence of his English Derby title is the main target. Lennies Eddie was due to race from trap four in Heat 1 of Saturday’s third round. That trap will now remain vacant.
