MONARCH AND PHANTOM FASTEST TO THIRD TURN

We stated last week that the 17 second barrier to the third turn was broken just 6 times in the entire 2025 BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby.
The opening round of this year’s classic saw 4 dip under the mark, while things went to another level at the weekend with 6 dogs breaking the magical barrier.
Fastest of the sextet were Bouncing Monarch and exciting youngster Glengar Phantom. Bouncing Monarch was again flawless on Friday night, posting 16.87 on his ay to a fastest of the round 29.11, while Glengar Phantom matched that 16.87 sectional on Saturday.
He didn’t have things quite as easy as Bouncing Monarch but shook off a strong challenge around the last two bends to eventually win in 29.48. Have no doubt, he will go faster.
Despite his advancing years, Bockos Diamond displayed much of his trademark dash to clock 16.92 to the third turn in his 29.19 success on Saturday night. Solo And Go was again razor-sharp as he posted 16.95 on his way to a fine success on Friday, while Wi Can James was just a spot slower as he clocked 16.96 before coming home alone on Saturday.
Ballyea Warrior also broke the 17 second mark for the second week running as he emerged a good winner. The Pat Buckley trained speedster posted 16.99 on Friday night.
