COOLBOY RUSTY STAR PERFORMER IN TRALEE

Barry Drake

Just like last week, Coolboy Rusty set the standard in Tralee on Friday night as the 6-4 favourite delivered another superb performance in round two of the John & Mary Killeacle Dowling Memorial 570.

Owned and trained by Eric Prestage, the impressive winner was soon in control after he showed plenty of early pace to lead. Cashen Dolphin was within two lengths early on, however, the one in front pulled away again late on, staying on strongly and showing massive all-round pace, Coolboy Rusty crossed the winning line four and a half lengths clear of  Cashen Dolphin, in quickest of the round, a top-class, 30.49. Four lengths behind the runner up in third was Champers Puma.

NEXT BEST ON THE CLOCK

Next best on the clock was Sunshine Dream as the June puppy won with plenty to spare in the opening heat.

Trained by Brendan Maunsell for Brid Maunsell, the 3-1 shot produced a dream start to lead early. Always in control, the bright prospect was very strong in the closing stages, pulling clear to beat Ballymac Freya, by seven and a half lengths, in 30.56. A further three-quarters of a length back to Grouchos Cain.

IN OTHER HEATS

Heat two went the way of Tyrap Luke for David Carroll. Just making the corner in front, the 4-1 winner went on to hold all challengers. A brave performance to land the spoils, in 30.76. Bounard Han a length and a half back in second with another half a length back to Hot Chocolate in third place.

Heat three produced an exciting finish with Millridge Bryce coming home in front for Donal O'Mahony. A 6-1 hot in the betting ring, the winner was forced to pull out all the stops in the latter stages. A strong running winning effort, clocking 31.19, half a length clear of Sporting Rita. A neck back to Ladyswell in third.
