ANGIE WITH ANOTHER CAREER BEST EFFORT AT NEWBRIDGE

Ian Fortune

Pomba Angie made it a perfect three from three in the Bosco Gleeson Memorial A2/A3 525 at Newbridge on Friday night, ensuring that she will start favourite for next weekend’s valuable decider but also confirming her undoubted potential.

Jaytee Dallas won the second semi in determined fashion but the headlines were always going to Pomba Angie.

Sent off the 5-4 favourite, the David Flanagan trained Pomba Angie was at her sharpest, holding a narrow lead into the bend before cutting across Droopys Weaver. Meleys turned second and did al she could to stay in touch but Pomba Angie was rampant.

Matthew Derrick’s daughter of Ballymac Cooper and Distant Aoife ran right away to eventually score by six lengths in a brilliant 28.54 (rated .20 slow). Priceless On Ice ran on well to take second with Meleys a neck away in third.

DALLAS STRIKES

Jaytee Dallas had to work a little harder in the second heat.

Paul Hennessy’s charge led the field in the turn but was headed by No More Hooshin on the turn. There was never much between the pair with Jaytee Dallas poised as they turned or home.

John Turner’s son of Orchestrate and Ballyroe Elsie stayed wide of his rival to launch his challenge. Powering home, Jaytee Dallas took charge on the run in to beat the staying on Clashroe Ted by two lengths in 28.85 with Changed Times getting up late to take third a further neck back.
