On Wednesday, 23rd October, RTE 1’s Nationwide Programme shone a spotlight on the remarkable achievements of young people in their hobbies and sports.
Reporter Mary Fanning introduced viewers to 17-year-old Daniel O’Rahilly from Kerry, who accomplished the extraordinary earlier this year by winning the Con & Annie Kirby Memorial 2024 at Limerick Greyhound Stadium with his greyhound, Knockeen Dazzler.
Both Daniel and Daz and the entire ORahilly family did us all proud on the show and they showcased the work, care and passion behind the scenes in Greyhound Racing.
If you missed the programme, you can watch it back now on the RTE Player.
Orla captured some behind the scenes snaps during filming which took place earlier in the summer. Be sure to check them out on social media.

When Knockeen Dazzler won the 2024 Con and Annie Kirby Memorial Final in Limerick Greyhound Stadium his nominated club, Mountcollins GAA, were cheering him on from the stands. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of JP & Noreen McManus, the club also won on the night, taking home a €10,000 winner's prize and a free fundraising night in Limerick.
We went along to visit the club to learn about them and how the winnings and money raised will be put to good use.
We were also joined on our visit by the Daniel O'Rahilly, owner and trainer of Knockeen Dazzler, and his dad and sister. Come with us to visit Mountcollins in Co. Limerick, just a stones throw from the O'Rahillys home county of Kerry.
