VERY BUSY TIMES AT KILKENNY

Ian Fortune

Those planning to have a runner in the famous Kilkenny Track Champion Open Unraced are reminded that entries will close next Tuesday morning (March 31st) with the opening round scheduled for Friday, April 3rd.

Boasting an incredible winner’s purse of €15,000, it is for 48 greyhounds and seems set to be another vintage renewal. There will be a special unofficial trial session this Friday at 4.30pm. Please note, this is for unraced pups only. Bookings can be made on 056 7721214.

LEAHY MEMORIAL AND NUMEROUS FUNDRAISERS

With the McCalmont Cup now over for another year, attention now turns to the €7,000 Georgie Leahy Memorial A3 525 which begins on Friday.

There is a full entry meaning the winner’s prize is a brilliant €2,500.

It is once again sponsored by the Leahy families in memory of their late father Georgie who was a staunch James Stephens GAA Club man. Fittingly this final will be run on April 17th which fittingly also serves as a fundraiser for James Stephens GAA Club.

Incredibly, between April 17th to the end of June - a total of eleven weeks - there are eleven fundraisers booked in at Kilkenny Track. There is limited availability in July through to the end of the year so anyone interested in running a fundraiser for their local sports club, school or charity should contact Kilkenny Greyhound Stadium on 087 7572304.
