SNUG DISPLAY FROM BOBBY AT LIMERICK

Peter Farrell

There were ten races on offer at Limerick Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night and the highlight was a trap-to-line performance from Snuggie Bobby in the Con Murphy Bookmakers AAO/AO 525.

Owned by Myles Cummins, Snuggie Bobby has been in fine form of late and he was bidding for a third victory from his last five starts when donning the white jacket. A tough contest on paper, the 7/2 shot got off to a ping start from three but was briefly headed by Battling Yank on his outside. However, it didn’t take long for ‘Bobby’ to reel in his rival and he motored around the inside to quickly manufacture a two length advantage. Setting a blistering gallop down the back, the son of Ballymac Cashout and Slaneyside Goldi was never under pressure thereafter and he stayed on expertly to duly record a popular, eighth victory of his career. Crossing the line three and a half lengths clear of the staying-on Boss Go in second, the time was a swift 28.39 on a track rated .20 fast on the night.

BEE BUZZES ON DEBUT

After a fine but extended qualifying campaign, Collakilla Bee (Coolavanny Hoffa - Mercenary Mary) made a winning debut for Maurice Fitzgerald in race three.

Installed as a 3/1 chance, the April puppy was drawn in five and although briefly headed by her inside rivals, ‘Bee’ showed sizzling early speed to breeze past her rivals into the opening bend. From here, it proved a straightforward assignment for this lady as she assembled a huge lead down the back, before upping the ante on the run for home. Emerging a facile twelve and a half length winner, the time was a fast 28.51.

IN OTHER RACES

Pat Conway got on the scoresheet in race five as Acambo built on his victory last time out at Clonmel. Stepping up to the 350-yard trip, the son of Pestana and Blastoff Sia went to traps as a 3/1 chance and he made his intentions clear with a thunderous break from trap four. In doing so, it was all on-way traffic from Acambo as he motored up the Limerick hill to record a two length win over Ruffian Roundy in second. The time was 18.99.

In the concluding race of the night, Airfield Best got back to winning ways for Michael O’Meara and Fergus Walsh. A classy lady on her day, ‘Best’ was on the downgrade in this contest and she certainly made that count, albeit by a slender margin. 3/1 at the outset, the daughter of Ballymac Best and Airfield Biddy flew from the bingo box in three and in doing so, took a two length lead into the back. Gortkelly John chipped away at the leader throughout and looked to have her measure on the run for home, however, Airfield Best pulled out all the stops to emerge a neck victor. The time was a fast 28.72.
