ROCKET ON TARGET, GASTON AN EXCELLENT PROSPECT

Barry Drake

Proper Rockett ran out a most impressive winner of the €800 Racing Every Saturday Night Novice 730 Stake Final at Kilcohan Park on Saturday night.

Willie O'Connor's 4-5 favourite enjoyed a dream run along the inside around the opening turns, and once hitting the front, it was game over. Barnfield Molly was in the mix early, but she was done at the opening corner by Glendale Go. Up front, the strong running winner was displaying plenty of speed, staying on strongly, the well-fancied winner came home nine and a half lengths clear of Barnfield Molly, in 40.93. A really nice winning performance from the in-form tracker.

Elsewhere on the card, John O'Donnell's Shangarry Rose impressed in the closing race. The 3-1 winner took over from Force Ten soon after the second corner, pulling out plenty up front to hold all challengers, it was a fine 28.79 winning run, a length clear of the running on Almighty Pete.

RUN OF THE NIGHT

The run of the night came in the opener, Gaston (Lenson Bocko-Vigorous Orla) delivering a superb 28.60 winning performance on debut.

In the ownership of the Heeney-Goff-Syndicate, the 5-2 winner showed massive all round gears to beat a strong field of runners. A nice touch of early speed took the exciting prospect to the front early and as hard as Miss Jelly Beans tried, the impressive winner had all the answers. A magnificent winning debut, clocking 28.60, three lengths clear of Miss Jelly Beans.
