PEP POUNCES IN GUYS AND DOLLS AT SHELBOURNE

    Ian Fortune

La Pepinillo was again the star in the Guys And Dolls A2 at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night, winning his semi-final in style, while Chelsea Pat won the female half of the draw as she again displayed real professionalism.

La Pepinillo, owned by Roy Ball and Trevor Pearson, has been a model of consistency in recent weeks and he made it four wins on the bounce with another typically efficient effort. Breaking fast, the Michael Corr trained son of Ballymac Bolger and Coolavanny Chick quickly moved clear of his rivals before going on to win by nine lengths in 28.54.

Town Lucky came through for second while Airdown Syd held on to earn a place in the decider in third, a further length and a half adrift.

    PAT MAKES ALL

Chelsea Pat was again very plucky in the second semi-final as she made virtually all to win for Lar Kelly and the Manor Racing Syndicate.

The daughter of Ballymac Best and Killeen Princess had to see off the persistent challenge of Rubys Trinity to the third turn before holding off Jamestown Rose in the closing stages to win by a half length in 28.95. Town Kitten would finish another length and a half away in third.

    TYPHOON DEVASTATES HER RIVALS

The final of the Distance Racing @ Shelbourne D3 750 went the way of the favourite Typhoon Tracy.

He was again headed by Goutouttathat but, for the second week running, ran down that rival to get up in the latter stages.

Owned by Mark O’Regan and Rob Fox, the daughter of Ballymac Cashout and String Of Pearls really does see out the trip and she took control off the final turn before going on to win by an ever-increasing nine lengths in 41.95.

    BOOM LOOKS A PROSPECT

There was a notable run from a youngster on debut earlier on the card with Jacktavern Boom posting a quick 28.65.

A litter brother to Droopys Kathleen, it was no surprise to see him starting the 2-5 favourite but he was kept honest by Royal Hotshot.

The latter broke fastest to lead early but Jacktavern Boom was soon in chase and took over into the back straight. The David Byrne trained son of Droopys Sydney and Droopys Dancer then eased into a decisive lead. Royal Hotshot continued to chase the leader but Jacktavern Boom would go on to win by three lengths. There seems no doubt there is better to come from the first two and they are worth keeping onside in the coming weeks and months.
