NOTABLE TRIALS AS SANDWICHES AND KNEGARE GO FASTEST

It’s easy know that the Winter Racing Festival is just around the corner when you glance over the trial results from Shelbourne Park over the weekend.

Derby champion Cheap Sandwiches again moved with real purpose on Friday evening ahead of racing, clocking a rapid 28.14. He is clearly in a good place ahead of his WRF assignment.

Twenty-four hours later, Derby finalist Glengar Silent went fastest of those to trial on Saturday as he flew around in 28.07. The Pat Buckley trained star is amongst the most exciting young greyhounds in training as we look ahead to 2026 but this latest spin is evidence that h needs to be taken seriously at the WRF.

2024 Derby third Callaway Knegare also sent out a reminder of his talents as he flew around in 28.17. Off the track since August, the 2024 Juvenile Derby champion is clearly in good heart. He posted a quick 18.65 last weekend for the 350yd trip but this latest trial was even more encouraging.

It will be interesting to see what race he is entered for at the Festival with the hugely fast son of Droopys Sydney capable of mixing with the best over 525yds through to 600yds. His kennel companion, Callaway Five also moved very well in a trial, clocking 28.28.
