NO SURPRISE AS GRAHAM MAKES IT 14

Ian Fortune

For the fourteenth year in a row, Graham Holland was the most prolific trainer in Ireland in 2025, although the gap has certainly closed to the chasing pack.

Of course, it was yet another special year for Graham with Cheap Sandwiches securing him a record fifth Irish Derby leaving him out on his own as the most successful trainer in the long history of the blue riband.

It confirmed his standing as one of the best, if not the very best, to ever put a lead on a greyhound.  In terms of numbers, the Riverside Kennels operation was perhaps less busy than previous years, sending out 156 winners from a total of 475 runners.

That is 24 less winners than 2024, albeit from 112 less runners. Certainly, there is no need for Graham to get worried, although the pack definitely did close the gap over the twelve months.

Pat Buckley was second in the rankings with an impressive 127 winners, two more than twelve months earlier, while Ian Reilly has 122 winners and Pat Guilfoyle had 112. Liam Dowling completed the top five with 110 winners.

Number six on the list is Paul Hennessy with 91 winners, ten more than his 2024 tally. Murt Leahy had 87 winners, Kurtis Bain 80 and David Murray 78, while Paraic Campion was tenth on the list with 75 winners.
