Burgess Mystery said goodbye to graded company in fine fashion at Shelbourne Park on Thursday evening, emerging a tremendous winner of the Shelbourne Park Dolls A2/A3.
In a race packed with promising bitches, many of which will compete at the highest level in the future, she was simply too hot to handle.
Chelsea Pat shot from trap three to dictate early but Burgess Mystery was soon on her heels and shot to the front before the corner. It would prove decisive. Magical Hope moved second and pressed throughout but Burgess Mystery always had control for Pat Buckley and JJ Fennelly.
The daughter of Glengar Bale and Nice Mystery may have swung wide off the final turn but she kicked again to eventually see off the fast-finishing Da Bold Rose by two lengths in 28.36 (rated .10 fast) with Magical Hope a further half-length adrift in third.
BEN AND BRANDOG IMPRESS IN REGULARS
There were a couple of big runs on the undercard in the semi-finals of the Shelbourne Regulars A4 with Ballyroe Ben going fastest for Kevin Losty and Nick Hammond.
Always in charge in the opening heat, the son of Malachi would emerge a facile eight length winner over Canty Bay in 28.55 (.10 fast).
There was a similar run in the second heat with Marlon Brandog scoring in impression trap to line fashion for Barry Clancy and the Barrystown Wheelies Syndicate. The son of Pat C Sabbath would make all after a slick exit to come home two lengths clear of Town Hoffa in 28.84 (.10 fast).
OBBY AND LIZZIE EMERGE ON TOP
The semi-finals of the Wear Your Parade Jackets A5/A6 (NB) 525were won by Deelish Obby and Tickets Lizzie.
The former was always to the fore before coming home clear in 29.00 (.20 fast), while Tickets Lizzie would take her chance when it presented itself at the second turn. She would go on to win in 29.37 (.10 fast).
