Given the wealth of talented youngsters in the Country at present, a competition which should provide even more top-class racing over the Spring months is the National Produce Stakes, held at Clonmel Greyhound Stadium.

Scheduled to start on Friday, 7th May, the competition will be for sixty greyhounds, whelped on or after January 19’ and Clonmel are delighted to announce that Larry O’Rourke will once again be sponsoring the prestigious event.

Larry has been a real saviour in terms of sponsorship at Clonmel track and this is set to be his fourth year sponsoring the National Produce Stakes, where prior to that, he sponsored the Munster Juvenile Puppy Cup at the Suirside venue.

Of course, the National Produce Stakes has been won by some sensational greyhounds in the past number of years and many of the eventual winners go on to accomplish great things in the sport. In 2017, Clonbrien Hero landed the event and he would go on to claim glory in the Laurels, St.Leger and Night of Champions later that same year, while 2019 winner Grangeview Ten also claimed dual Classic’s in winning the National Sprint at Dundalk. Last year, however, Newinn Taylor arrived at Clonmel an unbeaten greyhound and he duly made it twelve wins from twelve starts in beating one of the most talented fields in recent memory to land his first Classic. Fast forward seven weeks later and he would go on to claim the biggest prize of all as he was crowned the 2020 BoyleSports Irish Derby Champion at Shelbourne Park.

It certainly is a competition with an historic pedigree and with the current crop of 2019 whelps in the Country, the 2021 renewal could well be the best yet. Clonmel would like to extend sincere gratitude to Larry O’Rourke for his continued support of the track.
