KANE MORE THAN ABLE TO SHINE AT ENNISCORTHY

Ian Fortune

Enniscorthy is set to sign off in style this evening ahead of their traditional winter break.

The final of the valuable Lord Unraced is very much the feature of the ten-race card, which gets underway at an earlier than normal 5pm.

With an impressive €4,000 on offer to the winner, the final unraced competition of the year was always going to attract some promising trackers but it has turned into a truly memorable stake. After a sequence of four straight wins, all in flying times, Glengar Kane is certain to start a hot favourite for Pat Buckley and Richard Colwell.

The draw has been kind to the flying son of Grangeview Ten, while he has also had a few days extra to recover from his semi-final run with half of the field forced to take part in a re-run semi last Monday.

A repeat of his latest 28.51 return would also certainly be enough for Glengar Kane but he can’t rest on his laurels with some very talented rivals in opposition. Recent form would suggest he has plenty in hand on those that finished behind him in the semis, his kennel companion Deerjet Matilda and Ballinabola Jost, but each of the remaining runners have shown enough to suggest they can figure.

Any Means won his semi-final, showing fine pace to lead from early. He is clearly going the right way for Patsy and Sheila Morrissey and is entitled to respect. As the only seeded dog, he wears the stripes and will again need to dictate.

Seamount King has terrific pace and suffered his first defeat in the semis when failing to dictate, but expect Eoin Mullins’ talented youngster to race prominently. It would be no shock to see him running a big race.

Bombay Hawk completes a talented field. He is the eldest runner in the contest but has shown all sorts of pace in recent outings. He will need to show more urgency at traps but few will be moving as quick from the second turn.

It has the makings of a tremendous spectacle but it is difficult to look beyond Glengar Kane. If he doesn’t make any mistakes, he would quickly emerge as the one to beat. Seamount King and Any Means can turn closest, while Bombay Hawk will be looking to pick up the pieces. Best of luck to all involved and may they all come home safe.

A quick reminder that the action from Enniscorthy kicks off at 5pm with the finale due off at 7.15pm. Enniscorthy will then close their doors until early March. It’s been a memorable year at the Wexford venue and lets hope for so much more in 2026. Happy New Year.
