IMPRESSIVE SAFFRON SOLD BUT REMAINS WITH BUCKLEY FOR PRODUCE STAKES

Ian Fortune

In a matter of weeks, Flashing Saffron has established herself as one of the most exciting young trackers in training and it is perhaps no surprise that she has caught the eye of a number of prospective buyers.

Leading UK owner Craig Armstrong was lucky enough to win the race to get his hands on her, however. The man responsible for the ‘Slingshot’ prefix purchased her in recent days but she will remain with Pat Buckley for the remainder of the Carrick Aldo @ Stud National Produce Stakes before journeying across the Irish Sea.

After capturing the April Unraced at Enniscorthy in thoroughly professional manner, she was then thrown into the deeper waters of the Produce Stakes and duly obliged in the opening round. Once again, the feature of her victory was how professional she was in the opening yards, making every inch to win in 28.42.

The well-bred daughter of Grangeview Ten and Global Glengar is the latest in a number of high class home bred trackers to emerge from Buckley’s Cappawhite base in recent times and one suspects there are many more in the pipeline. Certainly, Pat seems confident he has a few potential champions on the way. We will keep our eye open for them.

We wish Flashing Saffron and her new owner the best of luck in the Produce Stakes and in the future. She is clearly destined to be a top class performer for some time to come.
