Just a few days shy of the National Greyhound Awards at Shelbourne Park, the UK’s equivalent were held on Thursday evening and Proper Heiress was named Greyhound of the Year on a wonderful night for both his handler Mark Wallis and owners, the MWD Partnership.
Proper Heiress saw off the challenge of his kennel companion Mongys Wild to earn the award but the latter was also a big winner, being named both the Stayer of the Year and Marathon Greyhound of the year. Incredibly, Bitch of the Year was another MWD owned performer New Destiny.
Shadow Storm was named Sprinter of the Year for owner Marc White and trained Richard Rees, while Newcomer of the Year was shared by Dave Firmager’s Romeo Tomcat and the David Mullins trained Santas Amigo.
Firmager and trained Patrick Janssens had further reason to smile as Romeo Steel was named British Bred Greyhound of the Year.
