Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI) is delighted to continue its support for the TUS Community and Industry Scholarship Awards, which celebrated its latest group of recipients in a special ceremony at the new TUS Coonagh Campus on Monday, March 24, 2025.

This year, eighteen students were awarded scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year, bringing the total number of students supported through the initiative to 170 since its inception in 2014. With an investment of over €1.5 million from industry and community partners, this initiative continues to make a meaningful impact on students' academic journeys.

Greyhound Racing Ireland is proud to be one of the many donors contributing to this important fund, supporting students as they strive for excellence in their education and future careers. The scholarship program not only alleviates financial burdens but also empowers students to balance their studies with personal and extracurricular commitments.

Guest speaker and TUS graduate, Peter Duggan, 2024 All-Ireland Champion with Clare, addressed the scholarship recipients, sharing his personal experience of how receiving a TUS scholarship enabled him to focus on both his studies and his hurling career.

“I received a scholarship from TUS, and the burden it relieved for me was massive. Playing intercounty hurling while studying in college is very difficult. Having the scholarship meant I didn’t have to work at the weekends, and I could still afford my diesel to travel to college and my food while at college. It gave me a great sense of freedom to be able to express myself in a college setting and on the hurling field,” he said.

Speaking at the event, Professor Vincent Cunnane, President of TUS, highlighted the long-term impact of the scholarship program:

“We are now entering the second decade of these Scholarship Awards, and they have grown to a €1.5 million fund with 51 donors supporting over 170 students. Since 2014, those donors and the TUS staff who work with the scholars have made a huge positive impact on people’s lives. The scholarship recipients themselves have seen the benefit of this support in a very real way in their personal and professional lives, with ripples of consequences extending across workplaces, communities, and families.”

Greyhound Racing Ireland remains committed to investing in the future of students through education, ensuring they have the resources and opportunities needed to thrive. By supporting this initiative, GRI continues to champion excellence, ambition, and community engagement.
