GREAT TO SEE PLUNKETT DEVLIN REMEMBERED

    Ian Fortune

Plunkett Devlin effectively wrote the book on how to care and look after greyhounds as the country’s most pre-eminent greyhound vet. For over fifty years, he was one of the most important figures in greyhound racing on both sides of the Irish Sea and more than one Derby champion owe their success to his healing hands.

Sadly, Plunkett passed away in December 2022 but he will never be forgotten. Indeed, it is wonderful to see the great man, who played football for Tyrone in his youth, remembered at Shelbourne Park tomorrow night with a valuable race run in his honour.

The Friends of Plunkett Devlin Open 750 features a €2,000 prize and features some very talented stayers. It is great to see a top class six bend race on the card and it is fitting that it will be run in memory of a truly great man, who’s absence is a massive loss to our sport.

Well done to his close friends who put their hand in their pocket to sponsor this race. We believe that much of his family will be present on the night and I’m sure the red carpet will be rolled out for them.
