Greyhound Racing Ireland are set to participate in the Walktober 2024 Challenge and are encouraging anyone involved in the sport of greyhound racing to follow suit. Aside from taking part in the challenge themselves, Liz Cribben and Kellie Whelan will be doing all the hard work behind the scenes and passed on the details of the challenge, all of which can be seen below.

For those of you looking to get extra exercise in and take in some fresh air, it seems like the perfect excuse to get out and about.

Greyhound Racing Ireland Steps Up for Walktober 2024 Challenge

Greyhound Racing Ireland is thrilled to announce its participation in Walktober 2024, the annual team step challenge that promotes health, well-being, and sustainability across workplaces nationwide. Organised by the TFI Smarter Travel Programme, Walktober encourages workplaces to engage in friendly competition by racking up steps throughout October. This year, Greyhound Racing Ireland will join some of Ireland's most prominent organisations in the challenge, including An Bord Pleanála, ESB, Medtronic, Arup, National Transport Authority, eBay Ireland, Galway Clinic, EirGrid, Oxfam Ireland, Children's Health Ireland, and City & County Councils from across the country.

Walktober provides an engaging way for Greyhound Racing Ireland to represent itself on the national stage while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among its employees and stakeholders.


How to Sign Up for Walktober 2024

Greyhound Racing Ireland encourages all staff, including Greyhound Owners, Trainers, Stadium Staff, Tote Staff, Hospitality Staff, Grounds Staff, Stewards, Welfare Officials, Admin Staff, Head Office Staff, and everyone associated with GRI to take part in Walktober and compete for the top spot on the GRI leaderboard. Here’s how you can get involved:

1. Form a Team – before 1st October 2024

  • Gather 3-6 team members from any area associated with Greyhound Racing Ireland..
  • Pick a Team Name and nominate a Team Captain to act as the point of contact.

2. Register on the Active Travel Logger

  • Visit the Active Travel Logger.
  • Team Captains must register first and create the team. Team members will then receive an invitation to join.

3. Track and Log Your Steps

  • Track your daily steps using a fitness tracker or mobile app.
  • Log your steps on the Active Travel Logger website. Weekly totals must be submitted by 2 pm every Monday to appear on the leaderboard.

4. Compete and Win

  • Teams will compete for prizes and recognition as the most active team. The leaderboard will update weekly, with the final results revealed at the end of October.
  • In addition to national prizes, GRI CEO Tim Lucey is offering a €50 One4All voucher to each member of the team (maximum 6 members) that tops the GRI Leaderboard.
