The opening round of the Lord Unraced may have been postponed from last Thursday but it was certainly worth the wait with a number of outstanding runs coming in the valuable stake at Enniscorthy on Monday night.
KANE SETS THE STANDARD
Three of the seven heats winners dipped under 29 seconds, while each of the seven heat winners impressed. Honour of going fastest went to Richael Colwell’s Glengar Kane but he was only two spots faster than Oh So Ivy with Seamount King also going fast.
Glengar Kane has shown real promise in qualifying and he was a hot favourite to land Heat 3. Despite a moderate start, the Pat Buckley trained son of Grangeview Ten and Mystical Luna found a way to strike the front early on the turn.
Driving up the rail, he ran a true line to move on at the head of affairs before puling right away to eventually score by six and a half lengths in 28.72. Ballymac Kandoo was second with Karlow Flane another two and a half lengths back in third.
MATILDA COMPLETES A BUCKLEY DOUBLE
Pat Buckley later completed a double with Deerjet Matilda coming home clear in the final heat despite leaving herself with work to do in the early exchanges.
Despite a slow start and early bump, the daughter of Deerjet Sydney and Nice Mystery came through to win for owner Nicholas De La Roche, seeing off Caitlins Bucko by two and a half lengths in 29.51. third went to Telex Hoffa.
IVY GOES OH SO FAST
Oh So Ivy was oh so impressive in the opening heat. She too was drawn on the fence and struck the front early to emerge a comfortable winner.
Owned by Sean Corrigan and Aidan Denton, the daughter of Deerjet Sydney and Right So Belle moved with real purpose to keep her rivals at bay.
Elite Blastoff missed the kick but displayed fine pace and track craft to move second on the turn but he was never close enough to worry the leader. build a clear advantage to halfway. Oh Sop Ivy continued to pile the pressure on and eventually hit the line five lengths to the good in a brilliant 28.74. Elita Blastoff was a good second with Kerabellec Tatta seven lengths away in third.
KING RULES
As was the case with Glengar Kane and Oh So Ivy, Seaview King also wore the red jacket when emerging an easy winner of Heat 5 for Eoin Mullins.
He wasn’t the fastest into stride but displayed fine acceleration to hit the front early.
It was all one-way traffic thereafter. The son of King Sheeran and Bobsleigh Joy powered clear before eventually coasting to a five length victory over the staying on Knockduff Diva in 28.88. Search For Glory took third, was another five and a half lengths away.
KIKI EMERGES AN EASY WINNER
Ballinabola Kiki also carried the red jacket to victory in Heat 2. The latest graduate from Brendan Murphy’s Ballinaboola base, the daughter of Deerjet Sydney and Ballinabola Evie asserted in the opening yards and proceeded to draw clear.
Rapido Ivy slipped around in second but there was no stopping the pace-setter. Owned by the Murphy Ballinaboola Syndicate, Ballinabola Kiki was dominant in a five and a half length victory over Rapido Ivy in 29.04. There was a good gap to Snazzy Bolger in third.
ANY MEANS TOO SHARP
Any Means was the first winner that didn’t race from one in Heat 4.
Owned by Patsy and Sheila Morrissey, the son of Ballymac Best and Mrs Boss was razor sharp in the early yards and made every inch to beat Beaming Olive and Snazzy Jill by a length and six and a half lengths in 29.09.
HAWK SWOOPS
Bombay Hawk justified odds-on favouritism in the penultimate heat for Michael and Peter Cronin.
In charge from early, the son of Ballyhimikin Jet and Galadriel proceeded to make all to beat Ballinabola Iris by four and a half lengths in 29.23. Piercestown Dash took third.
