There were some fine displays both in victory and defeat in the opening round of the Brownstown Tango & NTSC Open Bitch Unraced at Newbridge last weekend.
Tonight’s semi-final action in the valuable stake is even more fascinating with many expected to improve for their debut.
SUSIE AND DAFFY TO COME TO THE FORE
The opening heat is a perfect example.
Both Droopys Crispy and Sunset Ruby won their opening round assignments but both will need a little luck this evening as they are drawn out in four and five. Litter sisters Maireads Susie and Susies Shadow both displayed promise last week and seem likely to come forward.
Maireads Susie, in particular, caught the eye behind Sunset Ruby. She met a couple of trouble spots but was still fast enough to get within a length at the finish. She is likely to go far quicker if trapping on terms and is a serious payer for Fraser Black and Joe Horan.
Dap[per Daffy is perhaps the most interesting runner in the line-up. A daughter of King Sheeran and Derby finalist Maries Wedding, she qualified in a rapid 28.67 but found plenty of traffic last week when finishing fourth. Tonight, she wears the red of one and is expected to have a big say. Maireads Susie and Droopys Daffy are chosen to fight out the finish.
DOWLING WITH A STRONG TEAM
Liam Dowling has a very strong hand in the second heat with Ballymac Allory and Ballymac Lix representing his all-conquering Ballymac operation.
The former went fastest in the opening round, leading early to win in 28.84. She can go faster but will need to be on her toes from a tricky draw in trap four.
She remains the one to beat but her kennel companion, Ballymac Lix, went into the note book last week, showing plenty of pace despite finding traffic. Killough Bird, Ballinabola Suki, Newline Emma Be and Callaway Fia complete a talented line-up and each are likely to step forward on their latest display but the Ballymac duo are chosen to come to the fore with the nod just going to Allory ahead of Lix.
