GRI
The first lecture of the new Greyhound Welfare and Husbandry course took place last night at TUS Moylish, marking an important step in educating students and industry professionals on best practice in greyhound care.
The session featured introductions by Conor Foley of TUS and Pat Meskell (GRI Veterinary Director) as well as presentations from Tim Lucey CEO and Pat Flanagan, GRI Chairman, who guided attendees through a comprehensive overview of the greyhound industry in Ireland.
Topics included the current structure of the industry, historical background, international greyhound racing, and the role of Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI), including its committees and governance.
The lecture provided an essential foundation for the course, setting the stage for deeper exploration of welfare and husbandry practices in the weeks ahead.
Course organisers emphasised the programme’s goal: to equip the next generation of industry professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to ensure high standards of care and ethical treatment for greyhounds at all stages of their careers.
