EXCITING CORNER BACK SCORES AT ENNISCORTHY

Ian Fortune

Left Corner Back produced what was far and away the standout performance of the night at Enniscorthy on Thursday night when posting a rapid 28.88 (rated .20 slow) in the opening round of the Good Cody @ Stud Open Unraced Stake.

The first son of the lightly raced, but hugely talented, Here Comes Syd on the ground, he displayed huge pace everywhere to leave his rivals standing in Heat 4. Out of well-bred bitch Westpoint Jorgi, Damien O’Connell’s young tracker was in complete control from the early yards.

Moving with real fluency into the turn, he opened a clear advantage before extending it with each stride. He would eventually see off Scrahan Fox by eleven lengths.

RODNEY NEXT FASTEST

To highlight the impressive nature of the run, the next fastest heat winner was Bushpark Rodney in 29.35.

Eoghain Whelan’s son of Malachi and Please Blossom missed the start but raced into the turn to force his way to the front. Despite taking a bump, he entered the back straight with a couple of lengths in hand and he would go on to contain the eye-0catching Ballymac Sorrel by two lengths.

JOKING MAKES ALL

Mark Sullivan’s Itsjokingiam made virtually all to win the final heat.

The son of Ballymac Best held the big finish of Tip Top Roxy to win by a length in 29.49. The remaining heats went to Thomas Leahy’s Texas Jack in 29.88 and Carol O’Connor’s Rockmount Stella in 29.62.

SENSE OF HUMOUR FASTEST IN DONOHOE MEMORIAL

Sense Of Humour set the standard in the opening round of the Michael Donohoe Memorial, making every inch to win the first of the four heats in 30.41 for the 550yd trip.

The son of Droopys Sydney and Ballymac Orna came home two lengths clear of Rathnew Duchess, in turn initiating a fine double for Anton Butler.

BONO PERFORMS TO COMPLETE ANTON’S DOUBLE

Butler would complete the double in the final heat as De Bono Lad won the final heat in almost identical fashion.

Making all, the son of Broadstrand Bono ran out a ready two length scorer over Metric Strike in 30.45.

LOLO AND MILA SCORE

The Cora Jones trained Foxy Lola took charge at the third turn to win Heat 2.

From there the daughter of Dromana Bucko stayed on to beat the fast-finishing Peters Sydney by a length and a half in 30.57.

Brendan Murphy was on the mark in Heat 3, sending out Ballinabola Mila to make virtually all despite steering a wide path. The daughter of Ballymac Best ran on well to emerge a six-length winner over Slaine Diva in 30.66.
