DIAMOND SUFFERS DEFEAT IN JUVENILE

    Ian Fortune

Bockos Diamond suffered his first defeat since last May when finishing third to Proper Heiress in the eagerly anticipated TIME Greyhound Nutrition Juvenile Championship at Towcester on Sunday afternoon.

Amazingly, it was just his second career defeat but there is little reason to be disappointed with the sensational son of Dorotas Wildcat as he ran his heart out in what was his first start since capturing the Boylesports Derby last November.

Proper Heiress flashed from trap four to lead in the opening yards. Bockos Diamond made a slightly slower start and, despite surging into the turn, couldn’t get back on terms with Proper Heiress.  The Derby champ did show his trademark pace to challenge Proper Heiress down the far side but, ultimately, after a long absence, he would run out of steam from the third turn.

Proper Heiress ran right to the line to emerge a superb two and a quarter length winner in 28.62. Droopys Plunge ran on strongly to take second with Bockos Diamond tiring to finish just a length and a half adrift in third.

He may have suffered just a second carer defeat but Bockos Diamond displayed enough to suggest he will be at his brilliant best in the upcoming Star Sports/ TRC English Derby.

SANDWICHES AND OLLIE SCORE FOR HOLLAND

While Bockos Diamond was out of luck, Cheap Sandwiches and Yorkie Ollie impressed on the card with both winning their respective Star Sports/ TRC English Derby Trial Stakes for Graham Holland.

Derby runner-up Cheap Sandwiches made a winning return after a four and a half month absence.

Although headed in the early stages by Untold Ruble and Keefill Goose, Cheap Sandwiches ran a wonderful first and second bend to take over early in the back straight. Once doing so, the brilliant son of Burges Bucks eased on to win by almost two lengths in 28.94. It was a hugely pleasing first run at Towcester.

Yorkie Ollie made it two from two around the Derby venue in the very next Trial Stake. Uncle Freddie went up fast but Yorkie Ollie was on his inside into the turn before going on at the corner. Yorkie Ollie has really taken to Towcester and he moved with real fluency for the remainder of the trip to extend his advantage to the line. The powerful Graham Holland trained star would go on to win by four and a half lengths in 28.88.

NO LUCK FOR DON AND HARVEY

Swords Don and Faypoint Harvey didn’t have the same sort of luck in their respective outings.

Swords Don failed to land a blow after early traffic before finishing last, while Faypoint Harvey was narrowly beaten into third. He was prominent throughout but would eventually finish just a head and a neck behind Rackethall Brute.

CRAZE FASTEST OF IRISH TRIAL QUARTET

Jaytee Craze posted 28.80 in a pre-racing trial at Towcster to go fastest of the four Irish.

Recording a 4.09 sectional, he would move with fluency throughout. The David Byrne trained duo of Untold Dollar (28.94 off a 4.09 sectional) and Untold Rufiyaa (28.99 off 4.17) also moved well, while the Graham Holland trained Faypoint Susie clocked 29.19 off a 4.05 sectional.
