Barry Drake

The DG Foods LTD A4 Tri Distance Stake got off to a flying start in Waterford on Saturday night with several impressive performances in this fantastic event which is a huge addition to the calendar at Kilcohan Park.

Knocknadoguebale went quickest on the clock when delivering a superb front-running winning display in heat number two. In the ownership of the Dont-Know-Syndicate, the 2-1 winner just had enough early pace to slip around in front from the outside of the track. Showing plenty of gears up front, it was a brilliant 28.67 winning display, a length clear of Lough Malachy at the line.

In the following heat, Gortkelly Bear was another to overcome the wide draw when winning for trainer Michael Meade and owner Derek Larkin. The September puppy, an even-money favourite, displayed a nice injection of speed to just make the corner in front. Strong throughout in front, the improving youngster galloped strongly to the line, beating Grant A Wish, by five lengths, in 28.69.

Pot Of Gold took the fourth and final heat for Ken O'Neill. Last early, the 3-1 winner enjoyed a dream run around the first couple of corners. Catching the eye on the back straight, the pacey performer delivered a fantastic finish to beat Minglers Cracker, by four lengths, in 28.94.

In the opening heat, Posh Lucy scored for John Mullally. Hitting the front soon after the opening corners, the 2-1 winner then pulled away for a smart winning performance. A 28.97 winning run, six and a half lengths clear of Bogger Cash.
