It probably comes as no surprise that there was plenty of movement at the head of the Boylesports Derby market in recent days with Bockos Diamond now clear at the top, while his litter brother March On Freddie is now just 14-1 with the sponsors after the news was announced on this very page of his intended participation.
Damien Lonergan reported one hefty bet came in for Bockos Diamond, seeing his price cut from 7-1 down to 11-2. If his price remains that short ahead of the opening round, he would be the short-priced ante-post favourite in many years, perhaps decades.
Callaway Knegare remains second choice at 7-1 and it’s most noteworthy that he and Bockos Diamond could potentially clash ahead of the Derby with both entered for a 550yd stake at Shelbourne Park at the weekend.
Both will be very short for their respective semi-finals and if progressing, it would set up a mouthwatering clash just nine days from now. The outcome of that potential clash could have a bearing the Derby market.
De Lahdedah hasn’t been seen in racing action since his historic victory for Liam Dowling in the English Derby. He has moved very well in recent sprint trials, however, perhaps highlighting his well-being. He is just 10-1 with Boylesports.
