Ian Fortune
The Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby market remains largely the same after Saturday’s quarter finals with Bockos Diamond still favourite with the sponsors at 5-4.
He overcame a slightly tardy start by his standards to run out a ready winner once again.
His nearest rivals in the market are his kennel companions Cheap Sandwiches and Bombay Pat, both of whom are on the 8-1 mark. Boylesports Bob is a 10-1 chance to win the classic for sponsor John Boyle and Ned Murphy, while Callaway Knegare and Carrick Aldo are both on the 12-1 mark. It begs the question, what does Carrick Aldo have to do to see his price contract significantly? He has been one of the most consistent performers through the competition and set the standard on Saturday night.
Ballinabola Jim may have lost his winning sequence at seven but he is just 14-1 to land the Derby, on the same mark as Da Bold Falcon and UK raider March On Freddie. Seven Beach stands alone on 16-1, while A Lucky Julie is available at 33-1 despite a massive run on Saturday. Singalong Dolly also produced a big run, albeit in defeat, on Saturday and she is the outsider of the field on 40-1.
