POWERFUL PERFORMANCE FROM CLOGHEEN LASS IN DAVE COLLINS MEMORIAL MUNSTER OAKS

Barry Drake

Clogheen Lass (Laughil Duke-Leevalley Dancer) set the standard in the semi-finals of the €5,000 to the winner Dave Collins Memorial Munster Oaks at Kilcohan Park on Saturday night.

Trained by Graham Holland for owners the Farran-And-Away-Syndicate, the 7-2 shot delivered a top-class performance to return to winning ways. Clogheen Lass looked to be in prime position heading into the opening corner, but she was done no favours when Please Cabela ran off the opening bend. Ballymac Snazzy took up the running as the winner was now back in fourth. However, Clogheen Lass was winding it up heading down the back, soon in top gear, she flew home and the classy performer just got the better of Ballymac Snazzy, by a head, in 28.44, with four and a half lengths back to Newinn Nifty in that all-important third place.

BRAVE BALLYMAC ART

Ballymac Art drove a very brave opening corner as the Liam Dowling-trained superstar took the opening semi-final in 28.68, at odds of even money.

Skipping two lengths clear to the second last corner, Illnotbeback was chasing hard in second. It did get tight in the closing yards, but Ballymac Art held on bravely to score, a neck clear of the running on Ilnotbeback, in 28.68, with a short head back to Ballygur Anne back in third place.

OFF TO SYDNEY

Imperial Glory was a notable non-runner in the final of the €1,250 to the winner Casey's Caravan & Camping Park ON1 Unraced Stake Final.

Off To Sydney (Droopys Sydney-Rafa Babys Baby) ran out a convincing winner for trainer Pat Buckley and Denis Keane at odds of 2-5. In front early doors, the November puppy showed plenty of all-round pace to land the spoils, in 28.44, four lengths clear of Black Eyed Ruby in second place.

I'VE GOT THE POWER

Honey Power was far too strong in the final of the €625 to the winner Irish Retired Greyhound Trust A1 550.

Owned by David and Michael Power, the 4-5 favourite turned in a handy position and from there, the writing was on the hall. A strong running performance to score, in 30.01, making it four wins from just six career outings and proving two and a half lengths too good for Lough Mistoki.
