BROGAN CELT & LUNA ROCKET STAR IN GREYHOUND & PETWORLD SEMI-FINALS

BROGAN CELT & LUNA ROCKET STAR IN GREYHOUND & PETWORLD SEMI-FINALS

Barry Drake

It was pretty much as expected in the semi-finals of the €5,000 to the winner Greyhound & Petworld A1 stake at Curraheen Park on Saturday night.

Luna Rocket made it three straight wins in the event with another superb performance in the second heat. Trained by Paul Hennessy for owners Michael McGlynn and Wayne Leonard, the 4-5 favourite was forced to pull out all the stops in the closing stages. Midfield early on, the impressive winner is far from a one-trick pony as she showed a wonderful attitude to run down Brogan Highway in the closing yards. A head the difference, in 28.52, with just a neck back to Millridge Dolly back in third.

BROGAN CELT DOES IT AGAIN

In the opening heat, Brogan Celt made the most of the rails draw to win for John and Marguerite O'Donoghue.

Butterbridge Ivy won the all-important early lead and she set a very strong early pace. However, the 4-5 market leader showed massive back straight pace and the Brogan runner was in front before the third corner. Staying on strongly up front, Brogan Celt pulled away to beat the early leader, by two lengths, in 28.58, with a length back to Young Bud in third place.

BELLA NO MISTAKE

Ballydague Bella was a huge eye catcher last week and the Tom O'Neill trained runner made no mistake in the closing race, an A1 550.

In the ownership of the Dusty-Notes-Syndicate, the 6-4 joint favourite broke well from the inside and once the strong running lady hit the front, it was always going to take something special to reel her in. A powerful runner, the outcome was never in any doubt as she ran on strongly to beat Berties Cuddles, by three and a half lengths, in 29.74.

BOOLA MAJOR

The RCETS App ON3 525 Stake Final which carried a winner’s prize of €1,000 went the way of Boola Major for Eugene Cremin.

The December puppy was sent off at odds of 5-1 and after turning second along the rails, the son of Droopys Sydney then proved strongest in the second half of the race. A lovely performance, clocking 29.39 and beating Singing Major, by two lengths, in 29.39.

GREYHOUND & PETWORLD
