BETTER TO COME FROM SERIES COMPETITORS

BETTER TO COME FROM SERIES COMPETITORS

Ian Fortune

As expected, a number of promising youngsters took their first steps to potential future stardom at Shelbourne Park on Thursday night in the RCETS ON1/ ON2 Series.

The beauty of the competition is that each of the competitors will get to race four times in the coming weeks and there were a couple of particularly taking displays.

SHAWNY A PROSPECT

The honour of going fastest went to Ballyard Shawny who emerged a tremendous winner of Heat 2 for Michael O’Donovan and Michael Daly.

The son of Droopys Sydney displayed tremendous early dash along the fence to set a blistering pace to the third turn.

Despite tiring up the home straight, the October ’20 whelp came home five and a half lengths clear in 28.58. It’s clear he has a very bright future. Droopys Pointer stayed on well in second.

MONTANA REPELS PERSISTENT CHALLENGE

Next fastest was Sporting Montana. The Owen McKenna trained son of Ballymac Best repelled the persistent challenge of Undisputed to run out a four length winner in 28.66.

Both the winner and runner-up gave the impression they would go far faster in the future, while Graigues Ozzy also displayed plenty of pace in third.

ROMEO HAS A TURBO

Romeo Turbo was a good winner of the final heat for the English Derby winning combination of Graham Holland and David Firmager.

Leading early, the son of Romeo Recruit held off the best efforts of the promising Undulation by two lengths in 28.74.

DAZZLER TO GO FASTER

Kilara Dazzler produced a fine display in the opening heat for Michael Donnelly and Philip O’Keeffe.

As with each of the four winners, he gave the impression he could go considerably faster in the near future. The son of Ballymac Best displayed plenty of early dash to overcome an early bump before coming home two lengths clear in 28.88.
