It was confirmed yesterday that Towcester will again host the English Derby in 2024.
It will be year three of a five-year deal agreed by Towcester promoter Kevin Boothby with the GBGB following the 2021 staging.
Understandably, Kevin Boothby is delighted to secure the rights to stage the blue riband event but he confirmed there was serious work involved. Speaking to the Racing Post, Boothby said, “It is our privilege to bring this competition of cultural significance to Towcester racecourse and we’re pleased to be confirmed as the host venue of the Derby for a fourth successive year in 2024.
“Every person connected to greyhound racing dreams of one day lifting the Derby and this year’s final was an outstanding success from start to finish.
“We’re forecasting another bumper turnout of entries from both sides of the Irish Sea and look forward to the competition’s launch in May.”
The dates for the Derby, which will again be sponsored by Star Sports, were also released. The classic will commence on Thursday, May 23rd with the final scheduled for Saturday, June 29th.
