NICE ONE PROVES SHE’S A GREAT ONE IN BARRY 600

Droopys Nice One has never raced outside top company, has reached a Derby decider and has beaten the very best Ireland has had to offer since debuting in January 2022.

And so, on Saturday night it was no surprise to see the Murt Leahy trained star emerge a truly brilliant winner of the Yvonne Barry Track Bookmaker Open 600.
This was nothing short of a demolition as she shot from the outside trap and put the result beyond any doubt from the early yards. The daughter of Droopys Sydney and Droopys Dance was electric from boxes and had a commanding lead within a matter of strides.

Both Barefoot Supremo and Bens Teddy came away well to dispute second in the early yards but they were soon flanked and headed by Glengar Elvis and Jetstream Breeze. It mattered little, however, as the leader was gone.

John Coleman’s star performer galloped to the most facile of victories. Droopys Nice One hit the line six lengths to the good in 32.22. Glengar Elvis won the battle for second with Bens Teddy coming through to take third, just a half length adrift.

BONNY LAD SETS MERRIMAN PACE

The opening round of the Paddy Merriman Memorial provide some tremendous racing with Whyaye Bonnylad setting the standard with a 28.41 return.

Trained by Robert Gleeson for Martin Langley, the son of Ballymac Cashout and Drumalee Premier was too sharp for his rivals, leading early to emerge a comfortable three length winner over Yuppie Love. Uncle Tom was two and a half lengths away in third.

KING SHARPEST

The Marie Gilbert trained Ballynew King was too sharp for his rivals in the final heat.

The son of Premier Fantasy and Oakview Brae got loose into the turn and was never threatened thereafter. Whats Up Tracey was second with My Man Sam third but Pat Flanagan and Stuart Kenny’s Ballynew King was too good as he emerged a four length scorer in 28.45.

BILLY BOUNCES OUT

Innfield Billy did what was necessary in the opening heat, leading at the turn to win for Barry Clancy.

The son of Droopys Sydney and Work Your Head ran out a comfortable two length winner over Ballymac Vida in 28.49.

TIME TO TOAST CLARE

Toast Of Clare provided the long-standing Howard Wallace/ Francie Murray partnership with a deserving success in Heat 2.

Coming away smartly from three, the son of Good News and Bling Bling Lola asserted on the corner and proceeded to beat Regret Nothing by two lengths in 28.61.

LAD LEADS ALL

Daire Rogers’ Lissan Lad made the most of a flying start in Heat 3.

Exiles Sydney challenged early but was forced to check at the second turn, leaving Lissan Lad to dictate down the back straight. Both Exiles Sydney and All Along attempted to get back at the leader but Lissan Lad held on to beat All Along by three parts of a length in 28.64.

OPTIC HOLDS HIS NERVE

Again, up front was the pace to be in the early yards of Heat 5 with Optic Nerve dominating.

The Brendan Matthews trained son of Droopys Sydney and Dream Queen displayed fine early zip to quickly seize control. He emerged a comfortable six length winner over Noirs Best in 28.59.

LAST REGARDS A GOOD WINNER FOR GERVIN FAMILY

It was wonderful to see the Gervin family on the mark in Heat 6 with Last Regards.

The Eddie Hurson trained son of Good News and Lady Likewise broke smartly to hold a narrow advantage into the turn but, once turning into the back straight, he began to ease right away. The June ’21 whelp emerged a comfortable six length winner over Mustang Frankie in 28.53.      

RESCUE GETS LOOSE

Eimear and Michael Heeney were on the mark in the seventh race as Point Of Rescue shot clear of the field before holding on to contain the staying on Ballymac Dakota.

The son of Lenson Bocko and Vigorous Hilary hit the line two and a half lengths to the good in 28.63.

HAVE IT TOO STRONG

Droopys Have It, owned by Brendan Keogh and Simon Senyk, continued her fine run of form to set the standard in the semi finals of the RCETS Open 525.

Only fifth into the turn, the Ian Reilly trained daughter of King Sheeran and Droopys Pickles flew from the second turn to lead on the run in for a power-packed, two and a half length verdict over Sunshine Zoe in 28.46.  

WIZARD WITH THE MAGIC

The opening heat also went to the fairer sex with Billy O’Keeffe’s Anns Wizard (Dorotas Wildcat/ Droopys Zero) coming home in front in 28.70.

Leading from the start, the Murt Leahy trained bitch was never headed as she emerged a length and a half scorer over Highview Treat.
