With a big prize of €2,600 on offer to the winner, the John White Memorial A2/A3 550 Perpetual Cup was very much the highlight on Sunday night’s Clonmel card and Da Councillor maintaining his unbeaten run through the stake in excellent fashion.
Sent to traps as the warm 1/2 favourite, Da Councillor was chasing a spectacular five-timer heading into the decider and the Patrick Barrett-trained black made no mistakes with another flash start from trap two. Holding his inside line well on route to the opening turn, the son of Bull Run Bolt and Ranchers Rainbow expertly handled the corner to go two lengths clear of Bushpark Katie in second. Setting a strong gallop down the back, Da Councillor remained in the ascendency, however, Bushpark Katie was not going away in second and, if anything, was bridging the gap rounding the bottom two bends. However, Da Councillor knows exactly how to win and he found a second wind in the closing stages to run out one and a half lengths too strong for the gallant Bushpark Katie in second. The time was a fast 30.23 .10s and many congratulations are extended to connections of the Mulveys-Gang-Syndicate and trained Patrick Barrett.
