When Nushkas Buick won in 28.65 at Shelbourne Park last Thursday evening, it provided the perfect ending to a wonderful comeback.
While it was the daughter of Droopys Buick first win since April and a career best run, it wasn’t her comeback we’re speaking of.
Instead, it was Nalin Monerawela that was making the triumphant return. We only found out in the subsequent days that Nalin had been involved in a serious car accident a while back and was lucky to emerge with his life.
Amongst his many injuries were a number of broken ribs and two broken ankles. To say he has battled back to race-fitness would be quite the understatement. Indeed, it seems Nushkas Buick was suitably impressed enough by her owner’s fight back and was inspired to produce her best for him to claim a third career success.
No doubt Nalin have a few more winners before the end of the year but the fact that he is able to train greyhounds after such a terrible accident is testament to the man and his determination. Keep up the good work, Nalin.
