ALL GOING TO SCRIPT IN FAIR WARRIOR

Ian Fortune

Sunday afternoon’s action at Mullingar featured the second round of the ROPGTV Fair Warrior Open Sprint and favourite backers were in clover as all four heats went to the market leader.

Honour of going fastest went to Pavilion Fire, while Hawkfield Ava and So Its Rapid also went fast.

GLENFIRCAL OVERCOMES ADVERSITY

The opening quarter final saw Glenfircal come home on top, although it was far from a straight forward victory.

Despite missing the start and finding bad traffic on the turn, Liam Kirley’s charge somehow managed to come out on top.

Improving his position into the turn as those on his inner clashed, he almost went around unscathed only to be broadsided. He recovered quickly, however, and found himself in front at the second turn as many of his rivals became entangled.

Once going to the front, the massive son of Droopys Sydney and Glenlee had to be on his toes as Buzzbomb flew home to force a photo. The nod went to Glenfircal by a short head in an understandably slow 21.94. There was a further five length gap to Downstream Chief in third.

HE REALLY IS RAPID

For the second week running, So Its Rapid was ultra-professional as he took the second heat.

Trained by Vincent McKenna for Paul Pardy, the son of Rosbirr Ranger and Classy Ebony flashed from traps to lead early.

Hawkfield Scar flew up the outside of the track to challenge and lead briefly on the turn but So Its Rapid ran a better line to assert once again. He went on to emerge a comfortable and impressive three and a half length winner over the staying on Stefans Charm in 21.29. There was a two length gap to Hawkfield Scar in third.

PAVILION ON FIRE AGAIN

Richard Irwin’s Pavilion Fire set the standard in Heat 3, producing an almost identical run to the opening round.

Zippy Canning set a searing gallop into the turn and looked set to come home in front only for Pavilion Fire to fly up the back straight to lead on the line.

The Aidan McVeigh trained Pavilion Fire was second from the early yards but had plenty on his plate at the second turn. The son of Good News and Bubbly Firebird is very strong, however, and he finished with real purpose to lead late for a half length victory over Zippy Canning in 21.22. Scarborough Fair was the third qualifier, some five lengths adrift.

AVA TOO SHARP

Hawkfield Ava may have screwed out of traps in the final heat but she was soon in complete control after showing tremendous acceleration to open a clear advantage into the turn.

Representing the John McGee/ Jerry Connors combination, the talented daughter of Laughil Blake and Brownstown Tango went on to see off Boylesports Coco and Dunquin Sydney by two lengths and a length in 21.29.
