Ian Fortune
Little separated the three heats winners in Saturday’s Toolmaker & DTSC Gold Cup at Drumbo Park, although honour of going fastest went to Boherna Rio as he ran out a ready winner.
Charlie Coyle and High Harley’s lightly raced son of Pat C Sabbath and Boherna Liz was well found in the market, going to traps the 4-7 favourite, and he duly obliged. Flying from trap four, he was always at the head of affairs before racing to a three and a half-length victory over Sporty Bigman in 28.52.
PETERSBURG CONTINUES HIS SUPERB RUN OF FORM
Petersburg was another for favourite backers in Heat 2 as Michael Corr’s talented tracker dominated from the early exchanges.
The in-form son of Dorotas Wildcat and Vigorous Lindsey broke on level terms but had far too much early dash for his rivals. Once clear, he coasted home a facile four and a half length winner over Stefans Socks in 28.54.
ROCK TOO GOOD
Stefans Rock wasn’t the favourite in the final heat although he was still strongly fancied in the market, going to traps the 6-4 second choice.
Unlike the previous heat winners, the son of Ballymac Vic and Avongate Nova didn’t set the pace.
Instead, it was Meenagh Melody, the favourite, that took the field along but she had no answer to the pace of Stefans Rock down the far side. Moving on as they hit the third turn, Shea Campbell’s talented tracker went on to cross the line six length clear of Abigails Alex in 28.63.
