HEATHCLIFF PRODUCES A CAREER BEST DISPLAY

Ian Fortune

Whether Paula Heffernan’s Heathcliff is named after Emily Bronte’s tortured antihero or the carton cat scarcely matters.

What does matter is the fact that the son of Droopys Jet and Higher Level produced a career best display to lead home his rivals in the Marianne Fogarty Memorial A4 525 at Newbridge on Friday night.

Crackon Mammy went up fastest to hold a narrow lead over Heathcliff into the turn but she could never shake of her pursuer. Showing superior speed into the third, Heathcliff struck the front before the third turn before putting the result beyond doubt. The September ’20 whelp eased on in impressive fashion to eventually stop the clock in a fast 28.71. Mydras Ranger came through for second with the early pace-setter Crackon Mammy a half length away in third.

GARFIO GOES FAST

Capitan Garfio later posted a fastest of the night 28.68 to star in the semi finals of the NTSC A2 525.

Kenneth Busteed’s talented son of Droopys Sydney and Ballymac Petsy made virtually every inch after a fast start to see off Hello Mom by three and a half lengths.

The other heat saw Sooty Centurion run out a ready winner or Shaun Conway and Pat Tierney. Second from the turn, the daughter of Skywalker Puma shot to the front before halfway and eased right away to win by five lengths from Max Pay in 29.05.
