It’s a rarity for any greyhound to hit three figures in terms of career starts but that was the feat achieved by Slaneyside Defoe last night at Clonmel Greyhound Stadium.
Not only did the Derek Kehoe-owned greyhound line-up for the 100th time at the Suirside venue, he also marked that great achievement with an eighteenth career victory as he landed the opening race of the night, clocking a good 29.24 in the process.
Slaneyside Defoe started his career in February 2021 and it took a while for Kehoe’s charge to notch his first victory as he tasted defeat in twenty-four consecutive starts before finally breaking his duck around Waterford in early August. A further six victories were to follow that year at both Clonmel and Waterford and he started 2022 in fine style, securing victory in early January. The son of Good News and Slaneyside Cool has amassed a sensational record during his time on track and although last night saw him notch his 18th career win, he has also been second an amazing 29 times and third on a further 19 occasions. Slaneyside Kehoe has been an A2 performer at best and continues to compete at a high standard despite being part of the 100 club. Given he is still only a November 19’ whelp, he would appear to have plenty left in the tank based on last night’s winning performance at Clonmel and Derek Kehoe, who should be applauded for his expert handling of this greyhound, will no doubt enjoy further success going forward.
