There was €700 up for grabs as the final of the Talking Dogs S5/S6 350 served as the highlight on last night’s Galway card and it was Burkos Tonic who landed the spoils at odds of 5/1.
Owned by Edward Burke, the September 21’ brindle could only manage second place as he sought out first career victory last time out but he broke his duck in excellent fashion last night with a trap-to-line win. Running from trap six, Burkos Tonic came away like the wind from the stripes and despite Glasheen Tiger making rapid inroads on the fence in the early exchanges, the outside line proved crucial as Tonic swooped back to the front. Holding all the aces at this point, there was no stopping the son of Ballymac Best and Headford Bridge as he galloped to a comfortable, four and a half length victory over the unlucky Glasheen Tiger in second. The time was 19.43 .5s.
BUMBLEBEE DOUBLE
Elsewhere on the card, there was a double for the kennel of Paul, Shannon and Paddy Burke as both Bumblebee Sonny and Bumblebee Sally landed their respective events.
The first of the kennel to score was Bumblebee Sonny as the black landed a first career win in off-the-pace fashion. Running from trap six, Sonny had no answer to Drombeg Star early on as the 4/5 favourite blitzed the field to take a lead of over four lengths into the back straight. However, Bumblebee Sonny kept tabs on the leader throughout and the son of Good News and Bumblebee Queen coursed around the outside to power clear in the closing stages of the event. Three and a half lengths clear crossing the line, the time was 29.32 .10s.
The double was completed later in the card as Bumblebee Sally set out in search of a fifth career victory for connections. Sent to traps as the 5/4 favourite, the daughter of Pat C Sabbath and Headford Sally broke smartly from six and she took a slender lead around the opener from Tygra in second. The latter was to keep the leader honest thereafter with little to separate the pair but Bumblebee Sally held strong to secure a one and a half length victory at the line. The time was 29.69 .10s.
