It may have gone under the radar given the action-packed weekend of racing, but there was a really telling performance at Clonmel Greyhound Stadium on Friday night as the Mark O’Donovan-owned ‘Style’ lived up to his name.
A greyhound who began his racing career with a big reputation after posting a swift 16.34 in qualifying, Style duly won on debut as he flew around the tough Kilkenny circuit to post 28.75 in the opening round of the Champion Unraced. A luckless exit from that stake was to follow seven days later, however, he once again displayed his huge engine when coming from well off-the-pace to score around Clonmel at the end of May. Fast-forward a fortnight, and Style was to make it back-to-back wins at the Suirside venue and build on his impressive record of three wins from just four starts. Only an August whelp, the son of Droopys Sydney and Coolavanny Abba justified the decision to switch his seeding to wide as although breaking level, he showed an incredible burst of early speed to round the opener in front. Once doing so, Style manufactured a healthy advantage down the back as he excelled into the penultimate bend to stop the sectional clock at a rapid 16.08. From here, Style was to turn this contest into a procession as he drew further clear of his rivals to cross the line with over nine lengths in hand. The time was a stunning 28.46 .10s and this greyhound has a massive future ahead based on what he has already shown from just four career starts. Watch this space!
