There was yet another crop of promising youngsters unveiled at a very sunny Enniscorthy on Sunday evening with the Time Greyhound Nutrition Open Unraced getting underway.
One would suggest that the track was running slightly on the slow side as many of the times didn’t seem to match the level of performance. That is certainly worth keeping in mind in the coming weeks.
BERNI FASTEST
Fastest of the eight heat winners was Jason O’Grady’s Boderan Bernie as she ran on strongly to win in 29.11.
The daughter of Pestana actually went up fastest but steered a wide path on the bend allowing the favourite Nene Valley up her inside. Boderan Bernie quickly returned to the front, however, before powering clear from the third turn to win by five lengths.
SID TO SLICK
Next fastest was Honeysuckle Sid for John Codd and Diana Brodie as he turned Heat 5 into a procession.
A well-bred son of Ballymac Bolger and Liberty Marie, he struck the front into the turn and proceeded to run right away from his pursuers to score by an ever-widening fourteen lengths in 29.14.
SPIRIT SHOWS PROMISE
Just Paradise Spirit got within two lengths of the fastest heat winners on the clock. Dave Buckley’s massive son of Ice On Fire and Paradise Asia rode a hefty bump at boxes to power his way to the front on the turn. using his giant stride to great effect, the October ’21 whelp pulled clear to eventually cross the line with five and a half lengths in hand on Boolagate in 29.27.
REMAINING HEAT WINNERS
The remaining heat winners were Michael Bergin’s Cill Dubh Theo in 29.51, Joe Mackey’s Tobergal Buster in 29.62, John Murphy’s Merrymeeting Lil in 29.48, Colm O’Neill’s Ballyroe Elsie in 29.32 and Brendan Murphy’s Ballinabola Rex in 29.48.
