GIZMO AND FLORENCE WORTH FOLLOWING

It was a largely low-key affair at Shelbourne Park on Friday evening but a couple of displays stood out as both Florence Cake and Gizmo Smasher produced superb displays to enter the notebook.

Gizmo Smasher was expected to win the feature, the final of the Talking Dogs A3 525 and he duly obliged but it didn’t seem likely for much of the way. Jamie McGee’s talented son of Ballymac Bolger and Beaming Smasher missed the kick and found himself a long way off the pace down the back straight.

But the exciting August ’20 whelp wasn’t going to be denied. Moving through the gears, he started to make up ground through the pack before powering up the home straight to lead late. Saffron Mick set the pace for most of the way but couldn’t contain Gizmo Smasher who got up to win by a length in 29.06. Have no doubt, the winner will go considerably faster in the future and he is clearly one to keep an eye on.

A SWEET RUN FROM CAKE

Florence Cake was having her first outing over four bends but looked a natural as she emerged a most impressive winner.

Risky Reward displayed sprinting speed to lead the field into the bend while Florence Cake slipped onto the fence in second.

Moving through the gears, she closed on the leader into the third turn before making her move along the fence. Taking over between the last two bends, Patsy McCusker’s daughter of Droopys Sydney and Sizzling Daisy eased away to win by two and a half lengths in a very quick 28.59. It was a really eye-catching run and it would be no surprise to see her develop into top class tracker.
