17 WINS MEANS BLAKE ENDS THE YEAR ON TOP

Ian Fortune

No greyhound won more races on Irish shores than Skylight Blake in 2021.

Owned by the Skylight Syndicate and expertly handled by Nicolas Walsh, the son of Laughil Blake and Starcash Annie was a model of consistency throughout the year winning numerous times over both two and four bends to finish with an end of year tally of 17 wins.

His first of the year came at Cork on January 30th as he raced to a superb success over 330yds, posting a quick 17.67. His seventeenth and final win of the year came at Shelbourne Park on December 17th as he raced to a fine victory in the opening round of the RCETS Open 350, seeing off some top-class sprinters in 18.84.

In all he won at five different tracks during the year, Shelbourne Park, Cork, Youghal, Limerick and Waterford. For those involved in the brilliant tracker, it must have been quite a year.

Just one behind him on the list was Dan Byrne’s Bawn Farloe, who captured 16 wins around Mullingar. There were some big names next in the list on 13 wins including Singalong Sally, Explosive Boy, Billys Diva and Jacob Tashadelek. Youghal regular Baunfaun Rooney also joined them on that number.
