JAMES ‘SEAMIE’ CULLEN

    JAMES ‘SEAMIE’ CULLEN

It’s with real sadness we must report the passing of a true stalworth of greyhound racing, Seamie Cullen.

A proud Dungannon man, he was both a long-time supporter and fixture at Oaks Park, Dungannon prior to its closure.

Helpful to a fault, he would offer a hand to any man or woman trialling or racing dogs, while he would take on any task that needed handling.

A true lover of greyhounds, he would regularly say, “small fish are sweeter", but he also trained a couple of big fish in his time including the brilliant Shanless Becky. She was a real star in 2012 and 2013, claiming the Corn Cuchulainn and named Stayer of the Year in 2013.

Owned by his son Brendan and expertly handled by Seamie, she provided the Cullen family with their greatest memories in the sport. Such was his sporting nature, he also brought her across the water for a crack at the Golden Jacket at Crayford. While the tight nature of the track didn’t exactly play to her strengths, she finished a wonderful runner-up.

Seamie was a popular figure, particularly on the Northern Irish track scene but had a wide circle of friends throughout the country. He will be missed and fondly remembered by all that knew him.

He now joins his late wife Jenny in a better place. We would like to send on our sincerest condolences to his family, his daughters Pauline and Teresa, sons Brendan and Christopher, his beloved grandchildren, his sisters Maureen, Pauline and Eileen, his extended family and many friends.

    May He Rest In Peace.
