Carrick Aldo was brilliant in the second round of the Tote Gold Cup at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night, showing all his class and ability to emerge a tremendous winner in a fastest of the competition 28.25.
Of course, the track was conservatively rated .15 slow making the run even more impressive. Boylesports have responded to the run with the David Murray trained star now the 2-1 favourite for outright glory.
As good as Carrick Aldo was, Seven Beach lost nothing in defeat behind him. He was beaten three lengths but lost that much in running, slightly mistiming the start before being forced to check off the opening bend. He is now just 9-4 to land the €16,000 prize.
Da Bold Falcon was third to the big two in his second-round heat and is now just 8-1 third choice in the betting. Grangeclare Lady may have been picked up in the closing yards but she too has been clipped for outright glory and is now just 10-1.
Hawkfield Blue, who picked up Grangeclare Lady to win in 28.39, is now a 10-1 chance, while Cheque For Cash is next in at 14-1. Lemon Joey and Phoenix Memphis are 16-1, while Kerogue Lady is still available at 20-1 despite impressing in her second-round success. Ballyhooly Bruno is next in at 25-1, ahead of In Good Time at 33-1 and Jim By Two at 50-1.
