MARTIN’S MAGIC MILSTONE

MARTIN’S MAGIC MILSTONE

Ian Fortune

It was quite the weekend for Martin Lanney.

He saw two of his team progress from the opening round of the Paddy Kehoe Suspended Ceilings Gold Cup at Shelbourne Park, which would have made up for his beloved Liverpool being trounced 3-0 by Wolves in the Premier League but the real story of his weekend was the victory of Tassies Treasure at Dundalk on Friday night.

The daughter of Laughil Blake was a good winner in 21.48 for the 400yd trip. There was nothing too extraordinary about the success but a text message from Paul Hennessy soon after highlighted the significance of the victory as it was the 1,500th of Martin’s training career. Now that is something worth celebrating.

Of course, Lanney is around a long time, despite his youthful complexion, but to achieve such a milestone is truly remarkable and huge congratulations are due. And how fitting was it that he reached his milestone at his local track. We look forward to marking wining number 2,000 in the not to distant future.

Again, a huge congratulations to Martin. Who knows, Jurgen Klopp may be in touch to find out how to produce winners?
